Chinook Guild of Fibre Arts ("CGFA") is a Calgary-based guild in fibre arts including quilting, rug hooking, and needlework.  We are over 200 members and we meet at Rosscarrock Community Centre at 4411 - 10 Avenue S.W. the following times:

  • Mondays: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm except provincially recognized holidays and July and August.

  • Wednesdays throughout the year from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm; in July and August we meet from 9:00 a.m. - noon; and

  • the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm.

All fibre arts are welcome at all times!

You are invited to come see if you'd like to become a member!  Your first two meetings are free.

CGFA offers its members the opportunity to take advantage of:
  • Classes, trunk shows and demonstrations
  • Presentations by fibre arts specialists
  • Community Initiatives (formerly charity programs)
  • Displays of members' projects
  • Needlework, including knitting, cross stitch and embroidery
  • Quilting projects including mystery quilts and block of the month
  • Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, bobbin lace making and tatting
  • Rug hooking in the traditional Maritime style
  • Classes and workshops in all disciplines
The CGFA has a number of objectives including:
  • To provide knowledge and education of fibre arts for members
  • To preserve fibre arts skills and to encourage their modern application
  • To provide opportunities to donate to the community
  • To facilitate the exhibition of members' achievements in fibre arts
  • To share guild resources
  • To gather funds to achieve these goals
Are you considering joining the CGFA? Do you:
  • Enjoy meeting with others who share a love for fibre arts?
  • Do you value learning new fibre arts techniques?
  • Do you value contributing to your community?
  • Do you enjoy displays of members' projects?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we hope you will consider joining CGFA. To find out more, send us an email at cgfa@ymail.com.

Annie Johnson's mittens

"This knitted Mitten Advent Calendar * was inspired by Marilyn Bonner and some other ladies from The Loop Knitting Store in Kensington and members from our guild.  They were all doing one mitten a month.  It was really inspiring to see all the different sets - there was even a hand dyed and handspun version!

I had a lot of fun doing these and I learned a lot.  It has now inspired me to make adult size Norwegian colour work mittens.

I love the metal reindeer sculpture which was made by my daughter-in-law's father.  He owns a metal fabrication company, iMark, in Edmonton and they do a lot of architectural metal work."
